Review by Amazon Customer:
It begins by describing a couple of young girls trying to survive on their own, reusing tea bags to scrimp and barely make it on Laura’s tiny wages as a temp. Laura does her best to keep a strong front for her step sister Bibi, but she’s truly worried that they will be found out and returned to the abusive situation they have been running from.
In her innocence, Laura takes a position in a nightclub as a hostess, much to her revulsion. The silver lining in taking the second job is that she meets Julian, the club owner’s younger brother, who is thrust into the nightclub manager against his better judgment when his brother runs off. Julian quickly learns what type of shady business his brother has allowed to take place within the club the hard way just as Laura gets sucked in by doing a favor for her neighbor/coworker Petra.
As Bibi studies for her school exams, and practices her piano and singing, the danger grows and the true nature of shady dealings at the club emerge. No one is safe. Laura begins to trust Julian and his friend Beaver as this thrilling story unfolds.
I was constantly on the edge of my seat as the story began to develop. The characters were very believable, and I had immediate compassion for them and their situation. I was never bored and absolutely could not put this book down. I have read every book that Lyn has written, some multiple times! She is excellent at her craft and weaves a very good story every time. I can’t wait for her next book!

Laura Hamilton and her younger sister, Bibi, are on the run from an abusive stepfather and Laura is finding it hard to earn enough money to keep them – which is why she accepts a job as a hostess in a nightclub. Gradually she discovers that there is a seedy underside to the business. The respectable nightclub is also a front for a more disreputable operation dealing in exotic dancing and prostitution – and, unbeknownst to her, drug-dealing.
Enter Julian, the younger brother of the owner. He has been asked to manage the club temporarily during his brother’s absence. He and Laura feel an immediate attraction for each other but, as in all the best romances, the course of true love does not run smooth. The pace picks up as Laura and Julian find evidence of the nefarious activities his elder brother is involved in, resulting in real danger for the sisters as the gang tries to force them to co-operate.
I have read everything Lynette Sofras has published and have never been disappointed. She is an accomplished writer with a superb command of the English language, her characters are three-dimensional and her plots are getting better and better. Her more recent stories, including this one, have been more ambitious. In this excursion into romantic suspense, she displays the expertise of a master
