Coaches, instructors, and world class skiers get together to consult on new skiing book that reveals a cutting-edge teaching method

Phipps and Liedtke assembled a team of expert skiers, with strong credentials, to help them accurately and innovatively write one of the first simple and effective guides to easily becoming a better skier.  The authors designed a completely new teaching system, which was reviewed and validated by the expert team and a test group of everyday skiers. The results of this review and test were astounding, and the book was created.

This innovative and simple approach to ski instruction is called SITS (Simple Imagery Teaching System). It is a four part system that begins by using common everyday objects to help illustrate proper skiing technique. Objects such as a beach ball, a teacup, a common spring, balloons, and other recognizable images are used to clearly demonstrate the proper body position necessary for advanced skiing.

But, the system does not stop there. After simple imagery has been used to create the proper stance on your skis, SITS introduces the reader to visualization techniques to help the student develop mental engrams for each position.

What’s an engram you say?

An engram is presumed to be an encoding in neural tissue that creates a persistence of memory linked to a subconscious record of physical movement. This may sound complicated, but developing an engram is much easier than understanding the science behind it. Using our system, you simply train your body to memorize specific movement sequences and body positions so that you don’t have to think about it every time you go skiing.

After learning the correct body positions in the comfort of your own home, the instruction moves outside and allows a skier to run through very easy on-snow drills to develop the physical side of the engram and prepare for more advanced instruction later in the book.

Yet, it never gets complicated, as the instructional information is supported with over 125 illustrations, photos, and uncomplicated drills.  The book also helps you learn how to successfully ski the trees, powder, moguls, steeps, and crud. In addition, it goes beyond just ski instruction and includes chapters on: goal setting, staying motivated, choosing the right equipment, tuning your skis, off-season training, skiing unfamiliar resorts, and skiing in Europe (it’s easy and costs less than you think).

One of the crown jewels of this resource is found in Chapter 19 where the experts reveal their secrets, giving you exclusive tips on how to become a better skier. These experts are former champions, ski team coaches, and instructors.
