I often race off to grab my camera (to the amusement of my family…)
Usually that moment involves the special way light plays on a body of water, like glistening diamonds on a lake, or a sunrise thru the trees, or swans taking off through the mist rising after a cooling night. Often, it intersects with nature and a lone animal or individual lucky enough to share its space.  I love those moments of transcendence…a solitary, fleeting image of tranquility that may disappear in an instant.  I also love color and the graphic play of light on objects manmade and found, randomly tossed together serendipitously.

I’m a southern girl, raised in North Carolina, and have always lived on a body of water, like the Catawba River of my childhood, or the coastal Carolina marshes and barrier island beaches. I was surrounded by and loved interacting with nature.  I later graduated with a BFA degree from the Atlanta College of Art at the High Museum School.  Originally I majored in drawing/painting, then switched majors to photography/video to capture and manipulate images more quickly. I produced a lot of “bent” photography, using various experimental darkroom techniques and hand applied photo emulsions.

As I got deeper into video production, my artistic expression evolved into a career in New York working on TV commercials.  This somewhat sidetracked my “making art” as I line produced over 1500 TV commercials, ran a production company and advertising agency with my director husband, Peter Marshall, started a family and moved to wonderful Cedar Lake in Denville, NJ.  To keep my hand in creatively, I joined the IATSE film union as a Prop Stylist and Set Decorator, and eventually Set Designer.  I was the Production Designer of the movie “Modern Affair” with actors Stanly Tucci, Lisa Eichorn and Tammi Grimes, as well as various other projects.  Unfortunately, as it turned out,  I declined an offer a few years ago, to work on a new TV series “The Sopranos” (duh…”I was too busy” What was I thinking?) I do still love the occasional prop/art director job, as I love to solve “tool related” prop challenges.

All along I have taken photographs of my travels, and living in such a wonderful place as Denville has made grabbing images and interacting with nature a unique pastime.  Over the years my work has been in a few shows and I hope to pursue this lifelong love more fully in the future.
