You can see the Promised Land from here. It certainly turned out to be the case for my wife and me when we moved to the mountains from my native Louisiana. Hurricane Katrina made the decision easy. We visited Asheville in October and fell in love with the area. The Blue Ridge Parkway has a convenient parking area ear the origin of this trail up Mount Pisgah Deuteronomy 3:27) in western North Carolina. The next mountain over is Cold Mountain. Yes, the one from the movie. Heaven’s little acre included a small farmhouse built in the early 1900s at the foot of Cold Mountain. So, for us, looking from Mount Pisgah, we surely can see the Promised Land. Hike this trail literally or figuratively. Hear the crunch of fallen leaves beneath your feet. Breathe deeply and savor the aroma of the woods. Make your way up these steps to the mountaintop, and find your Promised Land.
